Orlando was chosen as the third location for SeaWorld due to the success of Walt Disney World. SeaWorld Orlando officially opened on December 15, 1973. The second SeaWorld location was a seasonal park in Ohio, which opened in 1970 and closed in 2000.

Aquatica Orlando is the accompanying water park that opened in 2008.

Discovery Cove is an immersive experience that features a coral reef, swimming with dolphins, and an aviary, and opened on July 1, 2000.
